Little rebel meets monk
Tashi is a 5-year old girl whose alcoholic father abandoned her. She arrives at a school at 7,000 feet at the foothills of the Himalayas with oversized pants, lawless and reckless behavior and a personality to match. Her troubled background can be observed in the earlier part of the movie but can be seen completely revamping after she is under the guidance of Lobsang Phuntsok, her teacher and the founder of the school. Phuntsok is a Buddhist monk that was trained under the guidance of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in India who later left for America to teach Tibetan Buddhism. He returned to his native country and worked on educating at-risk children and provided them with a much better future.
