Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is a condition where the heart stops beating unexpectedly. SCA can cause chaos in the heart, stopping blood from pumping around the body. SCA can occur at any time and can affect anyone regardless of age, gender, health condition and ethnicity. Each year in the UK, there are approximately 60,000 out of hospital cardiac arrests each year. In 2013 alone, the emergency medical services attempted to resuscitate 28,00 people of which only 8.6% survived. Educating more people about how to respond when someone is suffering from SCA can really help increase the likelihood of survival. Without immediate treatment, 90-95 percent of SCA victims will die. This infographic from defibshop will teach you everything you need to know about SCA, including what exactly SCA is, and what steps are needed to help someone suffering from SCA.
