In reality, many people are willing to shell out a chunk of their earnings just to buy over-the-counter (OTC) teeth bleaching kits and products. For those who have fatter paychecks, they run to their dentists and have themselves subjected to teeth whitening procedures just to achieve a lighter shade of teeth color. But sadly, some of these procedures aren’t as gentle as expected. This leaves them clueless and hopeless as to how they will continue fulfilling their desire for whiter teeth. To better understand how to achieve whiter and healthier teeth, let us first look into what causes damage and discoloration to the teeth. Genetics, the type of food and drink we consume, as well as our oral hygiene are just some of the factors which play a part in teeth color. The enamel, the white first layer of the teeth serves as protection. Any damage caused to the enamel reveals the hard yellow layer underneath it, the dentin. The remedies listed below deal with those whose enamel has been already damaged. But do remember that applying techniques to strengthen the enamel is better than curing, or as for this case, whitening the teeth. Below i discussed four amazing remedies for teeth whitening. These home remedies were tested by one of my close friends, when i was asking her why her teeth always shine like a diamond. Well, she asked me to get pen and paper and note down these home remedies. Also there are many other ways to teeth whitening. I spend a lot of time with dentists, talking things related to their patients & behaviour and how many patients prefer to have teeth whitening with home remedies. The answer was simple: very few people because they have no or little idea how to get teeth whitening with these home remedies.
1. Baking Soda
Baking Soda is a very common baking ingredient that also does wonders to making your teeth shade a bit lighter. Pour the mixture of a small amount of baking soda with water over your toothbrush before using it. You may also apply this directly on your teeth using your fingertips. Let it settle for a minute and wash thoroughly. Just be sure to use the powder sparingly as it can erode the enamel.
2. Fruit Peel
Did you just have a banana or orange for your daily fruit fix? Keep the peel because these are rich in minerals such as manganese, potassium and magnesium which are known to revitalize the enamel. Follow this step up with brushing your teeth.
3. Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar doesn’t only tastes well on sushi rice, but it also makes you rise and smile better than before. Rub your teeth with the liquid and give it a good rinse after. Doing this for a few days helps you achieve that sparkling smile.
4. Strawberry-Salt Scrub
Scrubs are not only meant for the body, having a nightly scrub of strawberry, salt and baking soda for your teeth also makes wonders. The vitamin C in strawberries helps break down the clogged plaque which is the main culprit that makes teeth turn yellow. The malic acid in the fruit also aides in removing stains that cause discoloration. The salt on the other hand physically scrubs the gunk that stains the teeth. Apply a generous portion to your toothbrush and brush your way to a brighter smile. Let it sit for 5 minutes and rinse thoroughly. You may not see these effects of these natural remedies immediately. But with enough patience, it is guaranteed that you can smile your way to a healthier and more stunning oral health. Featured photo credit: Whiten Your Teeth Naturally via lifehack.org
