Would You Recognise Your Mother If She Were Homeless

Have the homeless become invisible? Would you recognise a family member if they were homeless, or would you simply walk past them? I’ll be the first to admit that I have often walked past a homeless person on the street, actively trying to avoid eye contact. When you live in a city it almost becomes a part of everyday life. We’re told that even if we did give them money they’d probably only spend it on drugs or alcohol, that they’re there for a reason, that it’s better to go buy them a sandwich. How has it gotten to this point? Where we ignore or question the intentions of those most in need of help? It’s a complicated topic, so I’d be interested in your opinions on this: how can we best help the homeless in everyday life?
